Bushra! Ashara 1437 Medical Camp Registration

On hearing the news this morning, we humbly performed Sajadat and Shukr. It is a great honor that our beloved Moula, Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS, has bestowed on all of us, the mumineen of the United States, announcing that the auspicious days of Ashara Mubaraka will be observed this year in Houston, Texas.   We can all only hope that we are all witnesses to Moula TUS’s Sajadat on the day of Ashura.

The Mumineen of Houston have been hard at work for months planning this event. Many of you have been recruited for various khidmats already. With the raza of Shehzada Malek-ul-Ashtar Bhaisaheb, the Ashara 1437 Medical Camp Committee was formed to oversee the operation of a full service multispecialty clinic to serve Mumineen during these 10 days. The goals of the medical camp are not only to provide acute medical care to Mumineen in need, but also to screen for diseases such as diabetes and breast cancer, to provide educational services on various disease processes, and to ensure that Mumineen attending Ashara this year in Houston have access to the best medical and dental care that the US can offer.

Over the next several weeks, we will be organizing teams of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and ancillary volunteers to staff this clinic. We plan to have rapid response teams on call for any and all medical emergencies which may arise. We will have a concomitant urgent care facility within the clinic. There will be an area within the clinic for specialists to provide consultations to Mumineen. We will also be organizing a full service dental clinic this year. Importantly, there will be a disease screening clinic where we will offer diabetes and cholesterol screening, lab work, and breast cancer screenings. If specialists are willing, we will also set up some educational seminars centered around various topics pertinent directly to Mumineen and their health and well-being.

All of this requires staffing and volunteers. In conjunction with SBMAA, we would like to put out a general call for volunteers to staff these teams for Houston Ashara 1437. We would humbly ask that you sign up for the medical camp khidmat through HoustonAshara.com. Also, please leave a comment on this post to let us know what specific areas you would be willing to serve in during these days. Please post your area of medical expertise, your arrival date to Houston, and any other comments, questions, or ideas. We will make specific assignments for everyone involved. We pray that all of us work together to show the world how American physicians continue to be leaders in the medical community, providing a high standard of care, in humble service to our fellow Mumineen. Let us all work together to attain the Khushi Mubarak of our beloved Mufaddal Moula, TUS.

Financial contributions desperately needed for Yemen relief

In order to carry out the khushi and farman of Aliqadar Mufaddal Moula (TUS) to provide medical relief for the people of Yemen, many of you have volunteered your time to travel to Yemen on a relief mission. Many have stated they cannot travel at this time due to work or family related conflicts. However, there is another equally if not more important way that all of us can still contribute.

Hospitals and clinics are in critical, dire need for medications and supplies. Therefore Burhani Medical Idara has begun procurement of medications in India to send supplies to Yemen. This is an EXTREMELY costly task. Please consider making a financial contribution to aid in this effort.

SBMAA has committed to collect $100,000 for medication procurement. Dawat E Hadiyah America has graciously agreed to coordinate collection of funds. Please make check out to DAWAT-E-HADIYAH AMERICA. Write “Yemen Relief” in the comments and mail the check to:

“Khuda sagla Doctor-o ne khidmat karwane yaari aape, ehna haath per mumin ne ane ibaadullah ne shifa haasil thai, doctor-o ni ginti hajin ziyada thai.” Min kalemaat nooraniyah Jamadil-ullah 1436H, Orange County

Welcome to the Saifee Burhani Medical Association of America!  We are honored to be the first association of its kind founded under the direction of Syedna wa Molana Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin (TUS), with the guidance of Shehzada Husain bhaisaheb (DM) and Shehzada Qusai bhaisaheb (DM).

We endeavour to be a truly unique organization within the framework of Dawat.  Largely self-sufficient and self governing, we have been given a large, almost overwhelming mission, to use our specialized skills and training to bring mumineen closer to Mola (TUS).   Needless to say, it will take time and hard work by all of our members to bring it to fruition.  But with Mola’s (TUS) doa, we are confident that we can reach our goal.

Our platform consists of three main planks:

  1. Khidmat of mumineen — we hope to accomplish this through the standardization of medical khidmat for mumineen in the United States, largely run currently through the “mumin free clinic” model, with each center re-inventing the wheel as they go.  By standardizing this model, we can benefit from each other’s collective experiences and ideas and eventually move forward to provide proactive preventative care which is so sorely needed in our community.
  2. Mentorship of students — applying to and studying at any school related to the health sciences is an overwhelming and highly competitive process.  Trying to accomplish this while being an observant mumin can be doubly so.  We hope to help mentor potential students through their undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate training to ease the road in front of them, let them learn from our mistakes, and share in our experience.  We hope to also be able to provide halal financial aid to these students as well.
  3. Networking and Professional development — Through an organized structure, we can assist one another more than we perhaps realize.  Looking to relocate? Each of us has an extensive network of doctors in many specialties locally which could be tapped in to.  In private practice?  There may be benefit in shared management schemes or group purchasing rates.  Eventually we hope to offer CME credits as well, perhaps during our Meeqat Muqadassah such as Ashara Mubaraka, to encourage doctors to come by providing financial incentives in the form of tax deduction or use of earmarked CME funds.

As you can see, we have quite a broad scope and quite a heavy responsibility.  That is why we are so excited to have the enthusiastic membership we continue to enjoy.  While the leadership council has, under the guidance of Shehzada saheb, laid out some preliminary ideas and some basic groundwork, there is much more work to be done.  Our ideas and goals for the first year are preliminarily as follows:

  1. The development of an infrastructure to SBMAA.  Our current structure consists of five members of the leadership council appointed with the raza mubarak of Mola (TUS).  We have also formed a 25 member “advisory board” to help us with the dissemination and implementation of ideas and initiatives.  We have made every effort to make this board as diverse as possible, with regards to gender, specialty, and geography. HOWEVER, for the plans, the ideas, the research, the top level work, and everything else, we are dependent on you, the members. We sincerely hope, desire, and indeed expect, to hear your input, your creative ideas, your out-of-the-box thoughts, and yes, your criticisms.  The first step in this “horizontal leadership” concept is a blog on our website, available for all members to share their thoughts, and for others to comment upon them.
  2. The establishment of an assistance program to assist young medical professionals (particularly students or post graduate trainees) to attend Ashara Mubaraka 1437H.  These are folks who may be so engrossed in their training that they do not feel they have time for this commitment, or folks who are spending so much on tuition, or making so little as post-graduate trainees that they do not feel they can go.  Our hope is that they will indeed attend and gather the azeem sharaf of attending Ashara and doing khidmat of mumineen in the medical camps there, thus gaining valuable career experience as well.
  3. We hope to offer continuing education credits at upcoming meeqats, to encourage people to attend and partake of the barakaat through the use of incentives such as not having to use “vacation time”, use of tax deductions, and use of CME money.
  4. The development of a mentorship “infrastructure” where students can find physicians who share their interests, and would be willing to guide them through the complexities of career and job choices, while understanding the particular cultural and religious needs of mumineen.  This would also extend to include physicians willing to allow pre-medical students to “shadow” them during the day to gain insight, experience, and even letters of recommendation.

That’s a lot to do, and that’s just the first year!  But Mola (TUS) has confidence we can do it, and has given us his doa, which makes nothing impossible.  So roll up those sleeves, it’s time to get to khidmat!

BUSHRA !

Mubarak to all medical professionals from North America!

In wa’az, Maula (TUS) did zikr about fawaaqeh (fruits). While doing zikr about apples, Maula (tus) noted the old adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” and farmayu, “ehm kahye ke Doctor aawey and doctor beeja nay bhi laawey.” Moula khaas khitaab kidu ane dua farmaawi for the 250 medical professionals present.

Aali Qadar Moula (tus) gave the name, Saifee Burhani Medical Association of America (SBMAA), for the organization of medical professionals of the US and Canada. The SBMAA will operate as a subsidiary of Dawat – Hadiyah, America.

Medical professionals ijtema was held from 4.30pm until 6.30pm. Shahzada Qusai bhaisaheb (dm) and Shahzada Husain bhaisaheb (dm) khitaab farmayu to the assembled professionals. Shz Ammar bhaisaheb (dm) and Shz Taha bhaisaheb (dm) also graced the occasion along with several Qasr e Aali sahebo.

Three broad objectives of the SBMAA were presented to the assembled professionals: (1) khidmat of mumineen with a focus on preventive health mandates, (2) mentorship and support of aspiring medical professionals, and (3) collaboration and networking for current medical professionals. Shaikh Aziz bhai Poonawalla, Ph.D. introduced the speakers and then Dr. Shaikh Najmuddin bhai Karimjee, Dr. Mulla Mufaddal bhai Moosabhoy, and Dr. Shaikh Aamer bhai Jamali presented details of these aims.  Salman bhaisaheb Rashid and Ilyas bhaisaheb Najmuddin also spoke. This was followed by a Q&A and general discussion session, in which many important points were raised. Inshallah, video of the proceedings will be posted to the SBMAA website at sbmedical.org.

The following day, prior to wada majlis and zuhr namaz at Masjid al Jamali, Aali Qadar moula (tus) also gave sharaf of qadambosi to medical professionals.
